Stolen Words: This Is Love

Stolen Words are my compilations of lyrics used to make a new piece of prose of sorts.  The lyrics are ‘stolen’ from the songs I hear while listening to SiriusXM.  Below is a piece I wrote in response to the tragic events in Orlando last weekend.

I am not gay.  I am not transgender.  I do not know how it feels to be physically and emotionally attracted to another woman.  I do not know what it is like to not be able to identify with the gender I was born as.

But I do know about love. Continue reading

Stolen Words: Is This Love?

Stolen Words are my compilations of lyrics used to make a new piece of prose of sorts.  The lyrics are ‘stolen’ from the songs I hear while listening to SiriusXM.

I have been trying to write a piece about the mass shooting in Orlando since Monday.  I was attempting to stay focused on the positives like love and acceptance, maybe even forgiveness.  I was trying to avoid the negatives running around in my mind like anger and fear.  But as I listened and stole the lyrics, I realized two pieces were emerging.  One coming from the brighter side of my heart, one coming from the darkness in my mind.  So I decided to surrender to my own internal battle and let both pieces have a voice. He Died With A Smile And A Song

On Thursday a friend of mine passed away.

By worldly accounts, he was probably the richest man I ever knew.  He was a founder of the Ultramatic bed and, along with his wife, one of the largest personal contributors to Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, ON with a stunning two-storey glass and steel encased lobby named after them.  He owned several high-end cars, and a handful of custom Harleys.  He loved his gold rings and his flamboyant attire, and was more of a fashion statement than I’ve ever seen on the cover of a magazine.  His own circle of friends included celebrities and he had a long-standing friendship with Canadian icon Gordie Tapp of Hee Haw fame, who was the spokesperson in many Ultramatic bed commercials.

But it won’t be his material wealth, his bling, his vehicles, or his famous connections that I will remember about him.  It will be his spiritual riches. Continue reading

Stolen Words: When Doves Fly

Stolen Words are my compilations of lyrics used to make a new piece of prose of sorts.  The lyrics are ‘stolen’ from the songs I hear while listening to SiriusXM.  Usually, I surf my favourite channels to gather the lyrics however for this piece I was only tuned in to two channels, The Loft and The Groove, where they have been doing tributes to Prince.  All of the lyrics for this piece are from original Prince songs. Stolen Words: Life’s Railway To Heaven

Stolen Words are my compilations of lyrics used to make a new piece of prose of sorts.  The lyrics are ‘stolen’ from the songs I hear while listening to SiriusXM.  Usually, I surf my favourite channels to gather the lyrics however for this piece I was only tuned in to one channel – Willie’s Roadhouse – where they have been doing tributes to Merle Haggard.  All of the lyrics for this piece are from songs that are either Haggard originals or songs of others that he loved to perform.
