When Silver Linings Rip, Stitch ‘Em Up

Well.  That’s a deep thought now isn’t it?

On a more surface level – hello.  Again.

Looks like I ended up on an unintentional LOA from here.  Again.

Had a couple minor health setbacks and one biggie.  Fell at work and broke a few ribs.  Ouch.  Still ouchies but back to work at least, on modified duties.

What was I up to while AWOL?  Lots actually. Continue reading

News Flash: It Ain’t About Them

I would like to pass along a riveting piece of advice an dear elder of mine in AA shared with me some years ago.  She didn’t share it nicely but she did share it with love and good intention.  The love was to propel me to be honest with myself and the intention was to shatter a false reality I had lived with most of my life.  Her missions were accomplished and then some.  I have never looked at the type of thoughts and behaviours in question the same since then, and have been able to change many of my actions around them because of her.  For that, I remain forever grateful.

Unravel Me Universe, I Dare Ya

“The unraveling is a time when you are challenged
by the universe to let go of who you think
you are supposed to be and to embrace who you are.”

~     Brené Brown     ~

August of last year.  I’m standing at the sink doing dishes and pressing replay over and over again on a silent but nonetheless very loud conversation I’m having with myself in my own head.  “Why are you here again?  What’s wrong with you?  When are you ever going to change?  You’re such a loser.”

And then my mouth opened and out came the statement “You’re depressed.”

The weight of the words made my hands fall into the soapy water.  I was physically and mentally paralyzed for a moment.  Time stood still, as did I.  “But no, I can’t be, I’m better than that!”, I argued back to myself.  And out loud no less for full effect. Continue reading

I’m A Fashionista. Well, Of Sorts.

Let’s start with some definitions of fashionista why don’t we …

Merriam-Webster:  a designer, promoter, or follower of the latest fashions

Dictionary.com:  a very fashionable person, especially one who works in the fashion industry

Cambridge:  someone who works in or writes about the fashion industry

No, dear readers, I know I’ve been away from the blog for quite a while now, but I’m still the jeans’n’tshirt kinda gal I was before.  I haven’t turned into a fashionista as defined above.  So if you came across this post because you were looking for a good read on high fashion, you won’t find it here.  I know nuttin’ ’bout it.

What I do however know a little somethin’ somethin’ about is me.  And my mental health.  Or lack thereof as the case has been since I last wrote on this blog.  So if you substitute the word fashion in the above definitions for the words mental health, here’s what you get.  Or more correctly what I get since I’m the one switching things up around here …  Continue reading

All About 83 Unsung Heroes, Bruno Mars, Pokemon, and Harry Belafonte. Oh, and me too.

Thanks to Michael over at 83 Unsung Heroes, a favourite blog of mine, for saying a heck of a lot about nothingness and getting me started on this post with his oft inclusion of song lyrics at the tail end of his latest post.  This last one referenced The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars and it summed up how I was feeling at the start of my unintended 2 month blogging vacay …

Today I don’t feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don’t feel like picking up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
‘Cause today I swear I’m not doing anything Continue reading
