Hello! Thank you for taking time out of your life journey and stopping by along the side of the road. If you are new to this site, here is a tourist information package to help make your visit more enjoyable.
Me
Not feeling overly original at the moment so will copy & paste some content from my online dating profile:
The favourites on my world wide web: my 3 kids, music, coffee, writing, St. Joe’s Island, Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, quotes, Christmas, random acts of kindness, candles, Aberfoyle Market, and SiriusXM.
Okay, borrowed some originality from the lost & found box, so here’s a tad more about me …
A 45 Pulled From The Jukebox Of My Life
And just a touch more info … In 2014, I propelled myself into a mid-life crisis. Didn’t want it hitting me by surprise so figured getting it rolling myself was the better way to go. I made a lot of changes in my life and set out on a course of fulfilling my dreams, one of which is to write. A [not so] random conversation with a person I had just offered a job to broke through my wall of fear over writing the book that I had been thinking about for 10+ years. This fine young chap recommended I read Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg and I went out and bought it the very next day. It was like hearing the shot gun that starts a marathon – I was off and running. I’ve never been happier. This mid-life crisis stuff sure can be fun … if you let it be.
Marianne, Guelph, Ontario, Canada
PS I quite enjoy getting emails that aren’t bill notifications or spam that somehow got through my filters. So feel free to drop me a line (or two or twenty-seven). Unlike many online dating website members, I will reply. Promise.
My Blog
A hangout for my musings, the odds & ends of my life, and most importantly my passion – writing.
A site whose title is the namesake of my first novel – a work currently in progress.
A place to remind me to occasionally stop along the side of the road and just be. I never can know. Doing so could just change my life.
“Not only are bloggers suckers for the remarkable, so are the people who read blogs.”
Seth Godin, author & fellow blogger
I hope in along the side of the road I am able to share with you some of what I find remarkable, even if it’s simply finding it in the ordinary.
My Book
So this is where I’m supposed to give you a brilliantly written synopsis of the book right? I thought that is what editors help you write and I don’t have one – yet.
The idea for the book started over a decade ago and at the time, I described it as an “anti-futuristic autobiography”. In other words, it is about the kind of woman I hope to not become. That statement does remain true, in part. One of the two main characters is just that to me, at least earlier in the novel. But her character evolves through the novel and through her relationship with the other main character, she transforms and gains some of the attributes I do wish to exhibit.
I am thoroughly enjoying writing the book and will update this section more as it evolves, both in my mind and on my computer.

Thanks for the feedback! The about page really is a core piece of anyone’s blog so knowing that indeed you did find it originally written is a compliment and I thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. No plans to stop writing … gotta get that book done someday, and get a start on the other two I already have ideas for! Have a happy day and continued happy reading along your journeys, Marianne

I love reading. One way or another, I Pocket them and read them on my free time but I guess WordPress does it better anyway.

Hi Marianne, I like your style. I promise never to talk about midlife crises. Everyone, I am told, has a book inside them. I’m still looking for mine amidst the decrepitude of an aging body. So I decided a blog would be better cos it was unstructured, random and bobs about like me. I wish you everything in getting your book out. Incidentally, I was once told that James Joyce spent about 15 years trying to get someone to publish “Ulysses” and that was a masterpiece. So when your book is done, just keep plugging away until a publisher agrees. Take care.

Thank you very kindly for the comment Dreamer. Love that line “random and bobs about like me” – might have to beg, borrow, or steal that one from you!
And yes, I had forgotton about the Ulysses book going unnoticed for so long. Good thing for me to keep in the back of my mind when I hit my writing lulls.
Anyway, thanks again for the visit and the note. Hope you’re having a kindness-filled kinda day … Marianne

Hello Marianne!
I enjoyed your writing style immensely
Your about me profile i found fairly entertaining. It’s too bad I don’t have a dating profile or I would do the exact same!!!

Hello back at you Nam! Thanks for the kind words, I’m thrilled to know my style resonates with you and you liked the profile.
Here’s a stretch challenge for you – write a dating profile even though you don’t need one. You might find yourself writing some stuff that you would like in your About page that you hadn’t thought of before. Both are meant to highlight who you are and your best assets of course.
Anyway, thanks for the visit and taking the time to leave a note. Hope you’re having a kindness-filled kinda day … Marianne

Thanks very much Megha, my new bhaili. Oddly as I’m working on recrafting it, I’m getting more comments from folks who like it now. Guess I better not change it up too much eh?
Thanks for the visit and firing off a comment to me, much appreciated. Hope you’re having a kindness-filled kinda day … Marianne

I can’t wait to read more of your blog–I love your About page, and the first few posts I’ve read. One question from a woman who traveled near your city last fall on her way to Toronto–how is Guelph pronounced?? 🙂 I actually said to my fellow road-trippers, “hey, how do you pronounce Guelph?” Crickets chirped! Please help a wannabe Canadian out!

Shucks Wendy, that’s really nice of you to say! Hope you enjoyed more of your visit along the side of the road.
Guelph rhymes with shelf but the ue part of it sounds like a w. So maybe like this: Gwelf. Does that help?
And on a related note, did you know that Wiki often has a sound gadget on their pages so you can hear what the word/phrase/etc sounds like? Check it out here for Guelph. Right beside the bold mention of Guelph there’s a speaker like symbol. Click on that and it will sound it out for you. Make sure your volume is on though!

Anyway Wendy Wannabe Weir … thanks for the visit and the note. Hope you’re having a kindness-filled kinda day … Marianne
